Surprise

img_4212I walk in the cemetery behind my house sometimes. There’s no traffic, and it’s quiet and pretty. I read headstones and look out over the marsh down in the back corner. When I came across this big old tree with stunning new growth near the ground, I thought of the old adage, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Looks like plants can learn something new, and I know people can, so I’m ready to grow in a new way. Are you ready too?

Water

Be like water, the strongest element. It flows around obstacles in it’s path, eventually wearing them away. As the sages say, victory goes to the one who knows how to yield.

Spiral

img_4179

Going in, and going out, all of life is a spiral. Cycles and emerging and becoming. Treasuring each step along the way, I saw one of the last of this summer’s beauties on my walk yesterday. I share her with you so you’ll remember that we will spiral back in a few months. For now we are traveling inward again.

Beginning

img_4159Oh, blessed wheel, your turning brings me joy! I live in New England because I love the change of seasons, and here we are beginning a new one. Just the faintest beginnings but I can clearly see you. I am grateful for your singular peace.

Peace

img_4153

In the face of hostile comments when I post my opinion on Facebook. Once again, yoga saved my life.

Journey

img_4122Life is not a journey, of trying to get somewhere. So said Alan Watts. You know, it’s not the destination, but the journey? Well, it’s not the journey either. Life is being exquisitely present to the moment you’re in, or like Ferris Bueller said, “If you don’t stop and look around…you could miss it.” That means you will miss it.

Perfect photo from my morning walk.

Dance

img_4111

Danny Kaye said we should throw all the paint we can on the canvas we call life. I say we should dance and celebrate and laugh ourselves silly. Joy and friendship and magic is your birthright. I’m going to the beach house today and soak up the sunshine and grab all the love I can. What about you?

Slow, and Fast

imageI bring my phone on my morning walk because I almost always see something I want to photograph. Yesterday I heard the familiar sound of a hot air balloon. Of course I didn’t hear the jet, but aren’t they perfect together? Life is slow, and fast, and I want to remember. How do you remind yourself of what is important?

Love

imageI chose to walk through the gardens because it was an act of love. All choices are made either from love or fear, mostly fear. I needed solace and blessing, and roses have both in abundance.

Sunset

image

Sitting together for the first time in years, I feel that welcome old sensation of complete acceptance. We watch the sun set over the marsh together, arms around each other, remembering the past back into our hearts, and walking a new path together. You are the best of me, my friend.
