Still Here

IMG_4317.JPG

Earlier this week as I was preparing to travel to Lake Placid for a writer’s retreat I wrote that when I returned the leaves would be off the trees here in southern NH. Those beauties are still here, and so is the laundry, my unread library books and smudgy kitchen counters. And those things will wait a few days longer as I create a new writing habit. Daily applications of ass to seat so that I can write the truth.

Forever

Change is the only thing we can count on. This room, these people, the words we wrote and spoke, those days….and my life is changed forever. Come into my heart my new friends, take your place there and tell me your jewels of peace and madness. I will keep them safe.

Trading

There’s snow up in the Adirondacks and it’s wicked cold! I suspect there won’t be many leaves left on the trees when I return later this week, so I’m sharing these two beauties this morning to tide me over while I count snowflakes and write in Lake Placid.

Thirst

Blessedly, we now have rain. These gorgeous droplets are reviving my garden this morning. I thirst for the damp earthy smell after a rainy night, the squishy sound  of my footsteps as I walk amongst my plant friends, and the sensation of raindrops on my fingers as I pick flowers, fronds and stems. I am rejoicing!

Trust

Whether trust is eroded or faithfully strong, sometimes you must simply strike off in the right direction and know you’ve done all that you could. Today is such a day. I trust that I am held in love and peace, and all will be well.

Planning

img_4292Yesterday, I found this little one contemplating plans for the next few months. I am doing the same; Christmas, kidney visit, surgery. Planning well is an art, and, it can be a compulsion. But, you know, the best laid plans……. I prefer to let life unfold as it wants, and go from there. It’s easier and definitely more fun!

Dark

img_4283I wasn’t always a morning person. These days I enjoy the dark quiet hours while the world awakens, when my thoughts are closer to the surface and I listen to their wisdom.

Aging

img_4260

I have heard that whatever you are becomes accentuated when you are old. Oh! This is what I am, a lover of color and texture and creating beautiful things. I am truly looking forward to getting old!

Autumnal

img_4248The earth, the air, the fire, the water, return, return, return, return.

Could she be more beautiful? Could you be more beautiful?

Alone

img_4240

When you are alone, in thought or deed, you are a shining beacon for others. The last foxglove of the season, perhaps the last flower even,  looks bright and fresh as though she knows a secret. She does. I will follow her.
