in a moonless dawn on the day of his celebration, my friend sent a sunrise to inspire me

Something prosaic today: the snow on the plant hook is lovely, especially contrasted with the dark of the night, but it reminded me about how form follows function. Nature blesses us with lessons every moment, we need only stay awake.

This. This play of light and shadow. Art and writing are my focus this week and this was my greeting when I opened the door yesterday to let the pups out. She inspires me every day of my life, and this gift was perfect.

Still Here

Earlier this week as I was preparing to travel to Lake Placid for a writer’s retreat I wrote that when I returned the leaves would be off the trees here in southern NH. Those beauties are still here, and so is the laundry, my unread library books and smudgy kitchen counters. And those things will wait a few days longer as I create a new writing habit. Daily applications of ass to seat so that I can write the truth.

Change is the only thing we can count on. This room, these people, the words we wrote and spoke, those days….and my life is changed forever. Come into my heart my new friends, take your place there and tell me your jewels of peace and madness. I will keep them safe.

I have heard that whatever you are becomes accentuated when you are old. Oh! This is what I am, a lover of color and texture and creating beautiful things. I am truly looking forward to getting old!
