Earlier this week as I was preparing to travel to Lake Placid for a writer’s retreat I wrote that when I returned the leaves would be off the trees here in southern NH. Those beauties are still here, and so is the laundry, my unread library books and smudgy kitchen counters. And those things will wait a few days longer as I create a new writing habit. Daily applications of ass to seat so that I can write the truth.

While waiting out her dance class, he and I hang out at the bookstore, our favorite haunt. I borrow books from the library more these days, but I cannot help myself at the bookstore. I love the smell of books, I love to hold them, I love to have a stack ready by my chair. Upon arrival at the store he walks away and I don’t see him for an hour. Perfect.
