First Light

Tentative, absorbing, and playing shadows all around me: the morning light lifts my spirit.

This. This play of light and shadow. Art and writing are my focus this week and this was my greeting when I opened the door yesterday to let the pups out. She inspires me every day of my life, and this gift was perfect.

Moment

img_4426Autumn is my favorite season. As it winds down and prepares to relinquish itself to the snow and ice of winter, it is still beautiful. The soft colors and rumpled sense of its barrenness invite me to gaze longer than I intended, the gentle light creating easier shadows. It is time to let go of what no longer serves. It’s time to rest.

Light

My creative time has fallen by the wayside this past week, so after lunch we took our cameras to the backyard. I think it’s possible to make every shot beautiful, or interesting at least, and one of my favorite ways to do so is to shoot at ground level. The light is more complex there, and the shadow more profound. Close to the Earth from which we spring, from which we receive all things, I find her beauty almost unimaginable.
