A Year to Clear, Minimalist, Simplfy. I am called to release what no longer serves me, and boy oh boy, am I letting go of stuff. Coffee mugs we never use, clothes I never wear, and books I don’t need to keep. And now the bookcases provide me with a creative outlet!

I have a favorite instruction in class: “Release what no longer serves you.” It can be a challenge in most yoga classes, focused on fitness as they often are. I teach differently. I am asking students to release expectations, worries and their need to ‘know’.
Release is a daily practice for me right now. I am unsubscribing from email newsletters, purging my bookshelves, simplifying relationships, and practicing radical self-care, because I feel something new coming. I do not know what it is, but I will be ready for it. Ready with space and time for this new seed to settle in and grow.

Simplifying my life has been my goal for a while now. I have purged and given away things, used the library rather than buy books, and I’ve unsubscribed from email newsletters. This forced simplification of the past week has accomplished more than any of my previous efforts. Feeling too tired to knit, my Christmas preparations have been put on hold. Needing to nap a lot, I’m not sure I’ll be ready for book group on Sunday. Not having the strength to wield the vacuum cleaner, I have lowered my housekeeping standards. The best part is that I am not worried or concerned about any of it.
One can read admonitions, quotes about new ways to think, or listen to advice from others, but there’s nothing like experience to change your course.
