Those who are no longer here with us have left a legacy in the words they said, and remembering those words brings back their smiling faces, and once more we are sharing a cup of tea and laughing over a joke together.
My grandmother, faced with a child’s messy room would ask, “What’s all this culch?” I think in looking it up one time, I discovered that culch has something to do with separating sheep from one another. I guess said child ought to separate what she wanted to keep from what could be thrown out!
When something happened in our house that no one owned up to, my mother was not upset. She simply said “Chadwick did it!” I wondered for a long time if Chadwick was some creepy guy who hung around our family. Now I’m introducing this phrase to the kidneys!
Aunt Jan, my funny substitute Mum, said “Oh for cryin’ in the night,” when things were frustrating. I love that one, and I use it a lot. These are precious rememberances and should live on in our lives just as our beloved family members who live on in our hearts.
What do you remember?
